Chick Springs Update - September 2024

Getting Emails

To help people stay informed and keep confusion to a minimum, we’ve created an easy way for people to subscribe using Taylors TownSquare’s existing email sign-up link. We’ve added you to the list, but if you know someone who didn’t get this email, it’s straightforward for them to subscribe. They can go to this link, enter their email, and make sure they checkmark the “Chick Springs” box at the bottom of the form.

What’s happened so far?

To give everyone an update on what’s happened so far:

  • Taylors TownSquare came to terms and was deeded the property from the For 8 Corp. in late May.

  • Over the summer, we worked through getting the final plat approved by the county and the deed recorded.

  • We worked with Greenville County’s E-911 office to have an address assigned.

  • We filed the initial paperwork with SCDOR to have the property exempted from property taxes. This will take effect for the next tax year so we will owe property taxes on the property for 2024

  • We’ve explored installing some lights on Dan Bull Road with Duke Energy.

  • We’ve determined the next steps in developing a master plan for the property: We will need to work with a consultant to create a historical assessment to comply with Greenville County’s Historic Preservation ordinance. This assessment will cost approximately $5,000.

As you can see, it’s been a busy summer! To support these efforts, you can now give directly to support our Chick Springs Fund using this link.

Work Day on November 2 from 9 am to 12 pm

We will host an exploratory work day on November 2 for those interested in helping us get the lay of the land of the “island,” which is part of the property we acquired that is bounded by Dan Bull Road and Main Street Taylors. We say exploratory because this area has not been explored in recent memory, and we are not sure what we will find. If you have any accessibility issues, this is not your workday. We believe this area can be a charming recreational area if we can clean it out properly, but our goal on 11/2 is to get a sense of how much work it will take to clear out any debris and any of the underbrush that makes it inaccessible. We will send out a sign-up form for this workday soon, but please mark your calendar for now.
