Our 2023 Recap

Hey everyone, Happy November!

We’re in the final stretch of the year here, so we wanted to recap a few of my favorite Taylors TownSquare things that have happened this year:

  • The Chick Springs Park project went from planning to reality. The first zoning changes related to this are making their way through Greenville County, and we’re working step by step with the property owners toward acquisition.

  • We introduced our Coffee & Connect events. These quarterly gatherings bring back an element we’ve missed since our Monthly Meetings in the pre-COVID era: a simple, no-agenda time to show up and talk about Taylors. We’re excited to host the next one in February at Junto Coffee.

  • We continued to experiment with the Taylors Business Association. We’ve continued to try new meeting formats and are excited to see you on November 9 for our next Business Association meeting.

  • We’ve continued to see our nonprofit leaders come together for Nonprofit Council meetings. These meetings allow for cross-connection between many of the area’s mission-based organizations, helping everyone to find new and helpful ways to complement each other’s goals.

These programs help us push toward our mission: to see the Taylors community be a place everyone can belong. Finding connection in the community is hard, so we work to create contexts where residents, business owners, nonprofit leaders, and others can gather together to get to know each other.

We also have some board member changes to share. We are very grateful to Mike Iatesta for his service on our board for the past three years. Mike’s been instrumental to our work at Chick Springs, and we are excited to see him stay involved as a volunteer.

We are excited to share that the board has selected Stacie Burnett to join to fill the open seat left by Mike Iatesta. Stacie is a long-time resident of the Taylors area and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our organization. Welcome, Stacie, and we are excited about the work you’ll enable our board to continue doing in the future.

All of this exciting work can happen without you. The biggest thing you could do for us is sign up to contribute monthly to Taylors TownSquare. Even a donation of $10/month helps us take care of our basic insurance and programming costs, and with the Chick Springs Park project about to kick into high gear, your contributions mean more now than ever. You can give online here.

Showing up is also vital. If you find yourself in one of those groups described above, come out! We need your participation. We understand showing up to a meeting of people you don’t know can be very intimidating, but the way through that tension is by doing it.
Thank you for reading along with us. There is no community without your involvement, and we thank you for the journey you’ve allowed us to take as we complete our ninth year as an organization. Next year, year 10, is a milestone. We’re excited about everything we’ve been a part of, but it feels like things are just getting started. Make sure you’re a part of the journey with us as we do the work of building connections in Taylors.
