Election Season and Workforce Housing
It's hard to believe we are entering the last couple of months of 2022. As is typical of the third quarter, our community has a lot going on! A couple of things Taylors TownSquare is doing:
Our next Community Social is on November 10th from 6-8pm at the Taylors Rec Picnic Shelter. Have some s'mores with us and connect with neighbors! RSVP on our Facebook page.
We are now doing monthly Taylors Business Association events. You can find out more about those and sign up for updates from our website here.
Beyond the immediate Taylors area, there are a few key happenings and stories I spotted in the news that I want to let you know about:
It's local election season! This is a mid-term year, so there is no presidential election on the ballot, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't vote. Of particular local interest this year, for most of our area, School Board Trustee Candidates are on the ballot. A great resource to find out more about these candidates are these episodes of Simple Civics: Greenville County. There are other races as well, and you can find more information about voting in Greenville County on their website here.
Greenville County Council recently addressed Workforce Housing, an issue I've written about before, in a new draft policy template that will hopefully be used wisely by developers to address the enormous housing shortfall in our community. You can read more coverage of this policy from the Greenville News and the Post & Courier. You can also find the draft policy here.
One of the most frequently asked questions I get from newcomers to Taylors is "Why is there no city of Taylors?". The historical reasons for this are complicated and lie in the Mill-village-centric history of our community. The Greenville News recently did a story about the City of Greenville's recent annexations that touched on the background of this helpfully, so I thought I would call your attention to it here.
As I mentioned, there is a lot going on! What stories are you following in our community? I would love to hear from you, and thank you for your interest in making Taylors a place everyone can belong!
