Building Bridges and Smiles: Family Dental Health’s Humble Beginnings in Taylors
It all started in a little yellow house on the corner of Old Spartanburg Road and Brushy Creek.
Back in 2001, Dr. Bob Osbon welcomed two young dental school graduates—Dr. Rob Safrit and Dr. Mike Twitchell—into his small practice in Taylors. What began in that cozy corner spot has grown into something much larger: Family Dental Health, a trusted name with more than 45 locations across South Carolina.
But despite the growth, their roots haven’t changed.
From the beginning, Family Dental Health has been about more than just cleanings and checkups. It’s been about people. About showing up for the community—not only as healthcare providers but as neighbors.
One of the most visible expressions of that commitment is their Free Dental Health Days. Three Saturdays a year, FDH offices offer complimentary services—cleanings, extractions, fillings—to anyone who needs care. It’s all made possible by a team of volunteers who believe in giving back.
“It’s more than just dentistry,” says Dr. Rob Safrit. “It’s about taking care of people, earning their trust, and giving back to the community we love.”
Their heart for service also shows up through The Apple Tree Foundation, a nonprofit created to support local causes and encourage generosity within their own team. Each month, FDH highlights and supports a different community organization, deepening their connections beyond the dental chair.
Today, Family Dental Health offers a wide range of services—from pediatrics and orthodontics to cosmetics and sleep apnea treatment—designed to make care accessible, affordable, and truly family-friendly. But through all the growth, their focus remains the same: people first, community always.
